Byzantium is an OpenType font which was designed in 2012. It was
byzantine-inspired. It is a serif typeface with sharp angled serifs,
along with a relatively large x-height which gives it great legibility
at small sizes.
Originally, the typeface was designed to be used
in large sizes due to the decorative elements of the letters, but after
seeing the legibility of the understructure I decided to make it into a
typeface that can be used as body text. Only a select few letters
contain a decorative alternative. Eventually, I’d like to design a
complete set of decorative alternatives for each letter.
